Quests - Leveling, Rewards, Types

Quests are one of the most important parts of Black Desert Online. They allow you to get extra money, receive different rewards like armor, weapon, item upgrades and so on. They will help you to get familiar with the game and find new locations. There are a lot of different objectives in the game. If you like to complete tasks and read stories you will definitely find a lot of interesting things to do.

Reasons to Complete
One of the most important reasons to take and complete quests is experience and items for gear upgrades. Experience allows you to grow in levels faster, while item upgrades help to become stronger. Of course it’s possible to level up through grinding, but it’s not interesting. The game offers a lot of different stories for a player.

Types
There are a lot of different quests in Black Desert. All of them are divided into 7 types.

Quests of the Dark Spirit.
These quests are given by Shadow Spirit who follows the character throughout the whole game and helps him to grow. These tasks are one of the most important because they introduce the game to player and guide him through the locations. The rewards are also great: you can get special armor, weapon, different items and gems for upgrading gear. Some quest of the spirit will also reward you with experience. For example there are bounty tasks when you need to kill mini-boss. You will receive a lot of EXP for completing the objective. The spirit also gives daily quests when you reach high levels.

Main Story
Every MMO game has main storyline. Such quests tell story of the world to a player and make the game interesting. Main quests in Black Desert are closely connected with tasks of the Shadow Spirit. For example after you complete one of the main tasks you can unlock new quest from Shadow Spirit and vice versa.

Main quests are usually gathered into small groups. Such groups contain 4 or 5 smaller tasks. After you complete such group you will be rewarded and will see a short movie or will receive more information about the world of BDO. Right now Main quests are usually easy to complete. All you need to do is to run from one NPC to another talking with them in most of the cases.

City Quests
This type is marked with a house icon in your journal. These objectives are common: you will be asked to kill someone, to talk to an NPC, to catch a chicken, to bring something and so on. 90% of them will reward you with experience and different items, potions, food.

Crafting Objectives
Crafting quests are one of the most interesting: you need to gather or process different resources. The rewards are also great: different tools, resources, materials and so on. This type of quests is great for all serious crafters.

Daily and Weekly
There are recurring tasks you can complete every day or every week. They are mostly for grinding. The rewards are different. You can get items, resources, upgrades, experience and so on. A lot of players find them rewarding in the beginning.

Trading
Trading quests will ask you to transfer and trade different goods. They can bring a lot of money because you will receive different goods as a reward very often. These goods can be sold at a rather high price. If you are tired from killing mobs and grinding, trading objectives will definitely make your game more interesting.

Exploration
Exploration tasks are mostly for helping player to get familiar with the world and different locations. The rewards are: experience, new places on the global map and trade routes. They are not crucial but they will help you to visit new places and get rewards for that.

To Quest or to Grind?
A lot of BDO players ask about the most effective and fastest way to level up. Most MMO games including Black Desert offer two different ways: to grind killing thousands of mobs and to complete quests. What way is the best? The best variant for most of the players is to mix both opportunities. There are no reasons to ignore questing. This makes the game process much more interesting than just killing mobs. You can get extra experience and special items for upgrading gear.

Grinding is also a good way to level up character, but it’s much more boring than leveling through quest lines. Anyway Black Desert allows several variants of leveling. Both are great and it’s you to decide which variant to choose.
